Hamburger Chop Suey

This Hamburger Chop Suey is from my Grandma’s cook book with a couple small tweaks. I’ve added water chestnuts to this dish, but you can tweak the veggies how you’d like. This is easy low-carb comfort food that transports me back to my Grandma’s kitchen.

1lb ground beef
1 cup chopped celery
1 chopped onion
1 can of sliced water chestnuts (optional)
3 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp corn starch
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 cup of water
rice (I skip the rice for a low-carb keto dish)

Cook rice as directed. In the meantime cook and drain ground beef. Add salt, pepper, onions and celery cooking for 5 minutes. Add water cover and cook for 5 minutes. Add soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce and taste, add a bit more soy sauce if needed. Thicken sauce with cornstarch blended in cold water, if you are doubling this recipe stick with 3 tbsp of corn starch. Cook slowly for 10 minutes allowing to thicken. Serve over rice if desired or just enjoy as is!
